Greek Beef

Ingredients:
  • 4-5 pounds of beef brisket
  • 1-2 onions, sliced
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 x 14½ oz cans of tomatoes (822 gram)
  • ½ teaspoon allspice
  • 1 stick of cinnamon or ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup of dry sherry
  • ½ cup currants
  • salt and pepper
Instructions:

  • Saute the onions and garlic in a little oil, then brown the meat on all sides
  • Pour the tomatoes, alspice, cinnamon, salt , pepper,and sherry over the meat and onions
  • Bake covered in a 350 °F (175 °C) oven for about 3 hours or until the meat is very tender
  • Sprinkle currants over meat during the last 20 minutes of baking
  • Slice the meat and serve over rice
  • Serves 6-8
  • This tastes better the second day!
